Tom Abrehamson

Tom teaches an Iyengar style of Yoga.

Tom has a BA from Princeton and a JD law degree and has studied Iyengar Yoga since the 1980s. He has taught over 3500 classes in the mid-peninsula area since 2000 and has taken over 450 hours of teacher training with, among others, Manouso Manos, Aadil Palkhivala and Elise Miller. Tom teaches an "Iyengar-based" class. Iyengar-style yoga is distinguished from other styles by a strict attention to detail, by holding the poses longer as a student advances and by the use of props to help students into proper alignment and to feel the proper flows. Tom's classes are mixed-level classes that afford both beginners and more advanced students the opportunity to work at their own levels.

His classes combine precise instruction with individualized attention and gentle humor. His students work hard, make progress and have fun. You can find out more about Tom by going to www.alpineyoga.com.

Khen Rinpoche

Khen Rinpoche was given this title in 2005 by H.H. Dalai Lama and named as the head Abbot of the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in southern India.

Khen Rinpoche is a Tibetan Buddhist monk from Ladakh, He began his monastic life at age seven in Stok, his family village. At age thirteen he joined the Stok Monastery to study and memorize Buddhist scriptures.

Then in 1952, when he was sixteen years old, he walked with his father from Ladakh to Shigatse, Tibet to enter the famous Tashilungpo Monastery. This 800 mile trek took them over two months to complete. Geshe Tsetan received his novice monk vows there and studied Buddhist philosophy at the monastery's Skilkhang College with many prominent Tibetan scholars.

His dream was to receive the Geshe degree in Buddhist philosophy (Ph.D.). This dream was deferred when he fled to his homeland in 1960 for safety when the Chinese government intensified their policy of cultural genocide in occupied Tibet.

Khen Rinpoche then studied tantric practices, and then joined the School of Buddhist Philosophy in Choglamsar. In 1970 he went to Varanasi, India where many high lamas in exile had resettled and built new monastic colleges. There he received his Shastri degree (masters).

From 1974-1978 he taught high school in Ladakh. Then he met with a special invitation to come to the United States and teach at the first Tibetan Buddhist learning center of America. He went in hopes of learning English and completing his Geshe degree studies. He accomplished both, and in 1984 returned to the Drepung Monastery.

Khen Rinpoche wants to further extend his teaching to the young people of Ladakh, making the Siddhartha School the fulfillment of his lifelong commitment to learning.

In 1996 shortly after founding the school, H.H. Dalai Lama, appointed Khen Rinpoche to be the head Abbot of the new Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in India. This was done in the absence of the 4 year old Panchan Lama who has been missing since this young child and his family were taken by the Chinese Government. This appointment by the Dalia Lama was a great honor for Geshe-la, and one that was humbly set aside (with the Dalia Lama’s blessings), so that he could devote himself completely to the Siddhartha School.

However in 2005 H. H. Dalai Lama again asked Khen Rinpoche to accept the Abbot position, and this time he could not refuse. The title of Panchan Lama refers to “Great Scholar and Spiritual Leader” of the Tibetan’s in exile.
